“15 Variations on a Single Theme” is a concrete art piece created by Max Bill between 1935 and 1938. The original was published as a booklet by a Parisian publisher, with all titles and explanations written in French. Based on a single foundational theme, the work develops 15 variations through the keywords “sequence,” “development,” and “progression.” The original diagram constructs a square from one side of an equilateral triangle, and similarly forms "square → regular pentagon → regular hexagon → regular heptagon → regular octagon." These are then connected by a single line to create a spiral drawing. The 15 variations are developed by applying orthographic arrangements to this shape, following the formal rules (order of placing points, order of drawing lines, direction, etc.) defined by Bill.Source: https://metropolitan.co.jp/
