This stoneware is made from clay carried by the Mekong River, which flows from Tibet through several countries before flowing into Vietnam, and fired at high temperatures of nearly 1,300 degrees. The white glaze, created by a French artist, turns black when fired as the iron oxidizes, turning it a creamy off-white color that gives the surface a natural texture.
