The "UNKAI" series was created by designing by Yamada Yoshiro, and was produced by Maruasa Pottery in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, the home of Mino ware, with the clay, molding, and bisque firing, and then glazed and fired by Shinkogama. The flow of glaze depicts the sea of clouds that can only be seen from the top of the mountain. This unique piece combines delicate design and coloring as if the artist had made each piece individually with durability that will allow it to be used for a long time. It is available in six colors: "Snow," "Sky," "Hizui," "Cloudy," "Dark," and "Dark." The beautiful flow of glaze, which makes it seem as if a sea of clouds has appeared in front of you, creates an extraordinary tabletop and gives you a quiet time. The 22cm diameter plate is convenient for everyday use and can be enjoyed in a variety of expressions to match the food. The sea of clouds rises from the flowing glaze. To achieve this fantastical surface, a mold, clay, and firing process that are both uniform and robust are required. UNKAI is designed with a shape that allows the scenery created by the glaze to be beautiful, with edges that are closed 1mm inward instead of open outward. Maruasa Pottery's technology supports the creation of UNKAI, which has a beautiful, distortion-free circle. At Shinkogama, the firing takes 22 hours, more than double the usual time, and the "slow cooling" process takes 24 hours, three times as long.
