The UNKAI series was created by Kaichiro Yamada, with the clay, molding, and bisque firing by Maruasa Pottery in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, the home of Mino ware, and the glaze and final firing by Shinkogama. The flow of glaze depicts the sea of clouds that can only be seen from the top of the mountain. This unique piece combines delicate design and coloring as if the artist had made each piece individually with durability that can be used for a long time. It comes in six colors: "Snow," "Sky," "Hizui," "Cloudy," "Dark," and "Dark." The beautiful flow of glaze, which makes it seem as if a sea of clouds has appeared in front of you, creates an extraordinary tabletop and gives you a quiet time. The sea of clouds rises from the flowing glaze. To achieve this fantastical surface, a mold, clay, and firing that are both uniform and robust are required. UNKAI is designed with a shape that allows the scenery created by the glaze to look beautiful, such as a rim that does not open outward but is closed 1 mm inward. Maruasa Pottery's technology supports the creation of UNKAI, which has a beautiful, distortion-free circle. At Shinkogama, the firing takes 22 hours, more than double the usual time, and the "slow cooling" process takes 24 hours, three times as long.
