The Ant Chair is a classic Fritz Hansen piece. Despite its minimal form and slender shape, it is extremely comfortable to sit on. The Ant Chair was originally designed by Arne Jacobsen with three legs, but the new version has four legs for added stability. It is available in two seat heights. Arne Jacobsen originally designed the Ant Chair for the employee canteen of Novo Nordisk, an international pharmaceutical company in Denmark. The forward-thinking design was met with initial scepticism, but Arne Jacobsen himself promised to buy all unsold chairs, so production continued. However, the minimalist and slender form has more than proven itself, selling millions of chairs and earning the status of a masterpiece. The Ant Chair shell is made of moulded plywood made from a combination of nine layers of veneer and Indian cotton. It is available in natural wood, lacquer (a paint finish that hides the grain) and coloured ash (a paint finish that reveals the grain of the wood, which varies from chair to chair).・Natural wood: The exterior of the laminated plywood is finished with a natural wood veneer and clear lacquer. The clear grain brings out the organic shape of the chair. The grain pattern varies from piece to piece. If you prefer a natural look, we recommend natural wood. ・Lacquer: The lacquer finish hides the grain, giving the surface a uniform, silky soft look and allowing the color to stand out. ・Colored ash: With colored ash, the grain is clearly visible through the color.
