Fritz Hansen introduced Arne Jacobsen's Grand Prix chair at the Spring Exhibition held at the Danish Museum of Art and Design in Copenhagen in 1957. It was originally announced as the "Model 3130", but later that same year it was exhibited at the Milan Triennale and won the Grand Prix, the highest award of the exhibition, so it was named the "Grand Prix Chair".
