Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1944, the China Chair stands out as the only solid wood chair remaining in the Fritz Hansen collection. Wegner found inspiration for timeless designs in 17th- and 18th-century Chinese chairs. The China Chair is a perfect example of Wegner's lifelong exploration of the properties and potential of wood. Wegner's talent as a woodworker and his talent for expressive sculptural functionalism have been combined to create a modern interpretation of the ancient Chinese chair. The China Chair is made of solid wood and is available in cherry or black ash. The seat is fitted with a leather seat cushion. A wide range of leathers are available for the cushions. Fritz Hansen offers a wide range of leathers to ensure that each piece of furniture blends perfectly into any home. Different types of leather have different characteristics, so there are several factors to consider when choosing the right leather. Construction, maintenance, feel, comfort and appearance are all equally important. Different leathers also age differently, some darker and some lighter over time. The only thing all Fritz Hansen leathers have in common is their quality. We only use the finest leathers for our upholstery.
