Designed for Maison Tropical, a housing project for African settlers, "Potence" is one of Jean Prouvé's masterpieces. Although it is a large light fixture over two meters tall, it is a simple design that evokes his philosophy, consisting only of a light bulb and a steel swinging arm. The long arm's swinging function was conceived to allow a single light to illuminate two spaces: the dining room during meals and the living room for relaxing after meals.
