KIULU BENCH
The Kiulu bench can be used not only as a bench to sit on, but also as a storage space for all your everyday items in the bucket-like baskets on both ends. Towels, cosmetics, magazines, toys, slippers, and more, the possibilities are endless. It is available in two sizes, large and small, to suit the space and purpose. "Kiulu" means bucket or pail in Finnish, and refers to the tool used to draw water or hot water, which is indispensable in public baths. Japanese designer Koichi Futamata designed this bench, inspired by the culture of public baths that is common to both Finland and Japan: the sauna in Finland and the public bath and hot spring culture in Japan. These cultures, which cleanse the body and mind and create a place for communication, are deeply rooted in the lives of both Finland and Japan. The cultural connection seen in public baths was the starting point for designing this bench. "The soft, rounded forms of traditional Japanese tubs and Finnish kiulu, created from wood, evoked the warmth that is so important in the cultures of both countries. This warmth is also a value shared by both countries - surrendering oneself to the vastness of nature and incorporating it into one's life, living in harmony with nature. With this vast natural, cultural and historical backdrop, we wanted to create a product that combined design and functionality." (Futamata Koichi) Source: https://flymee.jp/
