It is no exaggeration to say that Minsk, which is synonymous with DOMANI, is made by applying the Raku ware manufacturing method developed in Japan in the mid-16th century. The cracks created by nature are dramatic, and even craftsmen cannot control them all. Therefore, the way the cracks enter (the size, spread, and range of the cracks) varies from piece to piece. The beautiful patterns created by nature give us new joy every time they are completed. While DOMANI pursues beauty in form, we believe that functionality and robustness as a planter that is placed outdoors and exposed to wind, rain, and cold are essential. We pursue the optimal combination of everything from the clay used, molding techniques, and glazes. The beautiful shapes and expressive textures created by DOMANI have a presence like an art piece. Nevertheless, DOMANI aims to create "functional objects" that are not out of reach, but that fit into daily life. In order to deliver DOMANI pots to many people, designers and craftsmen continue to work together to create them while also considering cost balance.・Technique - Rotated inside a mallAfter putting the clay into a mold, it is set in a machine and shaped from the inside with a knife while rotating. This is a very special technique that is suitable for making small pots. After removing it from the mold, the excess clay is carefully scraped off to finish it. Even if a machine is used in the process, it is ultimately finished by hand one by one. ・Crackling (Kannyu)Among DOMANI's unique techniques, the crackling technique called "RAKU" is particularly noteworthy and is based on the technique of craftsmen developed in Japan in the 16th century. Crazing occurs due to the difference in the shrinkage ratio of the glaze and the clay, so the combination of the clay and glaze is important. DOMANI uses a special clay that is suitable for cracking, and after bisque firing at a low temperature, a thick layer of glaze is applied and dried. After that, it is heated to 900-1000 degrees in a special oven for raku firing, and the craftsman chooses the right timing to place the pottery in sawdust before it cools down, and the temperature difference creates cracking on the surface. After that, they are left to cool slowly over a few days, and the soot is carefully wiped off each piece, revealing beautiful crazing. Source: https://flymee.jp/
