Dining Table Shaker II
A practical yet beautiful Shaker-style table. Supported by two legs, the legs are neat and tidy, making it easy to insert and remove chairs and clean. The balance between straight lines and rounded edges is beautiful, giving it a modern and gentle appearance. The round inlays on the legs are also an accent. You can choose not only the type of wood and finish of the tabletop, but also the color of the legs. All of Kita no Jyutaku Sekkei's furniture is made using solid wood from Hokkaido, and is made in Higashikawa, Hokkaido using traditional craftsmanship and traditional methods. Solid wood is used even in parts that cannot be seen, such as the drawer boards, rails, and stopper mechanisms. When making furniture using solid wood, joints and ingenuity are required that can accommodate the expansion and contraction caused by the breathing of the wood. We use craftsmanship to incorporate construction methods that prevent twisting and distortion while not interfering with the expansion and contraction of the wood. Since it is assumed that the product will be used for a long time, we pursue a functional and beautiful design that is inevitable, while assuming that parts will eventually need to be replaced or repaired. [About the tree species] ・Acer (Hokkaido) A beautiful tree species with white bark and a clean look. It takes time to dry and process, but the neat workmanship is exceptionally beautiful. It was once called "village tree", but the supply is decreasing year by year and it is becoming rare. The more you use it, the more it turns amber and becomes more beautiful. The grain may have dark lines called Kanasuji. ・Oak (Hokkaido) It has a calm yellowish brown color and beautiful grain unique to oak. It has moderate hardness, rich expression, and is easy to process as furniture material, and it is finished into stately furniture, so in the past, a lot of Hokkaido oak wood has been cut and exported overseas. The straight grain has a striped pattern called "Torafu". ・Japanese walnut (Hokkaido) Japanese walnut with a brownish-brown color and beautiful grain. It is a popular tree species for furniture because it has little warping and is easy to process. Those from Hokkaido are said to be of particularly good quality. Compared to maple and oak, it is a softer and lighter material. [About the finish] - Oil finish Apply oil based on natural linseed oil from LEMKE in Germany and let it dry for 4 to 5 days. Repeat this twice and finally polish with beeswax-based wax to finish. There is no paint film on the surface, but the oil that has soaked into the grain protects the wood and changes to a deeper color over time. - Soap finish Soap finish, which can only be selected for maple, is finished using a soapy water solution made from palm. It has a beautiful white matte look while leaving the wood grain intact, and has a more natural finish than oil. When you first start using it, the fuzz may be noticeable when you wipe it with water, but it will blend in as you use it. - Egg tempera paint (legs only) Egg tempera paint does not contain organic solvents and is environmentally friendly. The paint is made by mixing dried egg powder (powdered eggs) and pigment mixed with water and linseed oil. Allowing the paint to dry slowly removes moisture, hardening the coating and increasing its strength. Although it takes time to dry and is a labor-intensive process, the end result is beautiful furniture with a matte texture and deep colors. Source: https://flymee.jp/
