This center table uses Shirakawa stone for the top, adding a modern texture to a natural living room. Shirakawa stone is an andesite-type stone found in the Shirakawa region of Fukushima Prefecture. It has a natural texture and rustic roughness, and although it is stone, it has a warm color and texture, which goes well with the texture of solid wood. In addition to the species and finish, you can also choose the color of the wooden frame. All parts of Kita no Jyutaku Sekkei's furniture are made from solid wood from Hokkaido, and are made in Higashikawa, Hokkaido using traditional craftsmanship and traditional methods. Solid wood is used even in parts that cannot be seen, such as the drawer boards, rails, and stopper mechanisms. When making furniture using solid wood, joints and ingenuity are required that can accommodate the expansion and contraction caused by the wood's breathing. We use craftsmanship to incorporate construction methods that prevent twisting and distortion while not interfering with the expansion and contraction of the wood. Since it is assumed that the product will be used for a long time, we pursue a functional and beautiful design that is inevitable, while assuming that parts will eventually need to be replaced or repaired. [About the tree species] - Sugar maple (from Hokkaido) A beautiful tree species with a clean white skin. It takes time to dry and process, but the neat workmanship is exceptionally beautiful. It was once called "village tree", but the supply is decreasing year by year and it is becoming rare. The more you use it, the more it turns amber and becomes more beautiful. The grain may have dark lines called Kanasuji. - Oak (from Hokkaido) It has a calm yellowish brown color and beautiful grain unique to oak. It has moderate hardness, a rich expression, and is easy to process as furniture material and finishes into stately furniture, so in the past, a lot of Hokkaido oak wood has been cut and exported overseas. The straight grain has a striped pattern called "Torafu". [About the finish] - Oil finish Apply oil based on natural linseed oil from LEMKE, Germany, and let it dry for 4 to 5 days. Repeat this twice, and finally polish it with beeswax-based wax to finish. Although the surface does not have a coating, the oil that has soaked into the grain protects the wood and will change to a deeper color over time. - Soap finish: Finished using a soapy water solution made from palm. It has a beautiful white matte finish while leaving the wood grain intact, and has a more natural finish than oil. When you first start using it, the fuzz may be noticeable when you wipe it with water, but it will blend in as you use it. - Egg tempera paint: Egg tempera paint does not contain organic solvents and is environmentally friendly. The paint is made by mixing a mixture of dried egg powder (egg powder) and pigment with water and linseed oil. By drying it over a long period of time, the moisture is removed, and the coating hardens and becomes stronger. It takes time to dry, but it is a hassle, and the result is beautiful furniture with a matte texture and deep colors. Source: https://flymee.jp/
