BUMBLE BEE CABINET
Australian-based designer Christian Lyon was inspired by a Japanese-made container he saw at a gallery in Paris. The container was made of "yakisugi" (burnt cedar), a material made using the ancient technique of charring cedar, and was decorated with delicate gold. The overall form is simple, but the details are intricately decorated. Oak pieces of different sizes are arranged in a random rhythm against a background of mirror-finished black enamel. The yakisugi handles are lavishly decorated with lacquer. Each creates a beautiful contrast. This impressive cabinet combines classic Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary design.
