ISHINOMAKI STOOL
This stool was created after the earthquake, when temporary housing needed a step stool or a chair for putting on shoes. American furniture manufacturer Herman Miller provided an easy-to-assemble tool for workshops for residents and elementary school students, and 220 units were made, many of which were used in temporary housing. The light and compact design, which can be placed both indoors and outdoors, is now used in a wide range of settings, including homes, offices, and cafes, and is one of Ishinomaki Kobo's representative works. In 2015, it was permanently preserved at the V&A Museum in the UK. The Yakushima cedar used in this product (a cedar planted at the foot of Yakushima 30 to 60 years ago) grows at about one-third the rate of cedars in northern Honshu, has fine grain, and grows in a humid environment, so it is oily and resistant to decay. It is also known as Japanese red cedar. It has many knots, is heavier than red cedar, and is highly weather resistant. The Ishinomaki Kobo by Karimoku version is available in different materials and colors. Ishinomaki Stool by Karimoku Source: https://flymee.jp/
