The Yakushima local cedar used in this product (local cedar planted at the foot of Yakushima 30 to 60 years ago) grows at about one-third the rate of cedars in northern Honshu, has fine grain, and grows in a humid environment, so it is oily and resistant to decay. It is also called Japanese red cedar. It has many knots, is heavier than red cedar, and is highly weather resistant.
