This solid-top circular dining table has been lovingly crafted using beech wood that has grown over many years in the mountains of Michinoku. At a factory at the foot of the mountains, craftsmen use their bodies to bend the wood, then plan and polish it with a hand plane, carefully crafting it using the same handwork techniques that have remained unchanged since the Meiji era. The structure, in which the tabletop, legs, and crosspieces are assembled simply and efficiently, is rooted in the rationality seen in Shinmei-zukuri and Sukiya-zukuri architecture, which consists of pillars, beams, ceilings, and floors.
