Rocking Chair
This rocking chair was designed by Mitsumasa Sugasawa, an engineer and designer at Tendo Mokko who was trained at the Danish National Technical Institute and has been at the forefront of development for many years. This rocking chair is loved by many architects and designers, and is also known to have been used by sculptor Isamu Noguchi in his studio. The side frame is molded as a single piece with no seams except for the armrests, achieving both high design quality and robustness. The legs are constructed using a technique called "link molding," which combines solid wood pieces (links) with molded plywood. This is a design unique to Sugasawa, who is well versed in molded plywood technology. The curve of the armrests uses the advanced technique of "unequal thickness molding," which changes the thickness locally, with consideration given to the beauty of the appearance and comfort of use. The shape that follows the lines of the body and the divided seat cushion relieve tension throughout the body, providing a moment of healing with natural rocking.
