Dining Hiback bench
A compact-sized dining bench with a backrest, designed to resemble fluffy wool. Each piece is carefully crafted in a workshop in Hida Takayama that has inherited woodworking techniques that have been passed down since the Nara period. The design of the back is inspired by the lattice pattern found in the old streets of the Hida Takayama area. The seat is flat, making it easy to sit on for people of all builds and positions, from children to adults. The bench is made of red oak, which has clear grain and is slender yet sturdy, and is finished with persimmon tannin oil, which has attracted attention for its antibacterial and antiviral properties. Persimmon tannin, which can be said to be a part of traditional Japanese culture, has been used since the end of the Heian period, and since the Edo period it has been used for a wide range of purposes in daily life, such as wood protection, dyes, and preservatives for cast nets. Persimmon tannin, which is made by fermenting and aging the juice of astringent persimmons, contains 10 times the tannin (astringency) of wine and has many excellent effects such as preservative, waterproofing, insect repellent, and antibacterial properties. Painting wooden furniture with this paint has the effect of suppressing the growth of pathogens, and recent research has shown that it is also effective against influenza, norovirus, avian influenza, etc. Red oak wood has a high oil permeability and is easily soaked with persimmon tannin oil, so the effects of persimmon tannin last for a long time. By suppressing the growth of bacteria and viruses on furniture, it reduces the risk of infection with pathogens. Source: https://flymee.jp/
