A110 PENDANT LAMP “HAND GRENADE”
A pendant lamp designed by Alvar Aalto in 1952. Its shape has earned it the nickname "Grenade". The steel body is fitted with a brass ring with holes drilled into it, which is attached to the bottom of the lampshade. The light is diffused from the holes in the ring like a ring, and is emitted as a soft, warm light. It was designed for a project by the Finnish Technical Association and was also used in the conference room of Seinäsälo Town Hall, one of Aalto's most representative buildings. Artek pendant lamps have two essential elements. The first is that they are brimming with beauty and presence as objects, like sculptures, whether they are lit or not. The second is that the structure diffuses the light, reducing glare and emitting a soft light. It is precisely because they have these two features that Artek pendant lamps always envelop the space in a gentle, warm light, like a comfortable evening. Source: https://flymee.jp/
