ToFU LED
A primitive table lamp with a lamp embedded in a highly transparent acrylic cube. By utilizing the properties of acrylic and the dispersion of light, only the cross section is illuminated, creating a design that makes it seem as if a polyhedron of light suddenly appears in the darkness. "ToFU" was designed with inspiration from the simple finished form of Japanese cuisine and the refined craftsmanship behind it, and its form, composed of only the minimum elements, is reminiscent of Zen philosophy. This is the first collaborative work by leading Japanese designers Tokujin Yoshioka and Yamagiwa, and its universal form has been highly praised outside of Japan, and in 2005 it was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
