This chair was designed in 1963 by designer Kenji Fujimori, who studied in Scandinavia and was greatly influenced by the creation of functional and beautiful furniture. Scandinavian furniture-making techniques are fully utilized in the design of this chair, and although it has a simple shape made by processing a single piece of molded plywood into a three-dimensional curved surface, it has a variety of functions. The holes in the seat are designed to prevent the cushion from slipping due to friction with the tatami mat. At the same time, they also serve to reduce weight and prevent warping. Another feature is that it is light at 1.7 kg and can be stacked, making it easy to store. The material used is cedar, a soft coniferous tree. The soft coniferous wood compaction and molding technology developed by Tendo Mokko gives it the same high strength as hardwood and the natural beauty of the wood grain, and allows for complex curves and delicate forms that cannot be achieved with solid wood.
