ARMCHAIR 41 "PAIMIO"
This armchair was designed in 1932 for the Paimio Sanatorium, a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, a project in which Alvar Aalto and Aino Aalto worked together. It is still considered one of Alvar Aalto's masterpieces today. The seat, fixed to a cantilever frame, seems to float in the air and supports the body of the person sitting on it with amazing elasticity. Since wood changes over time and warps according to its own characteristics, the frame, which also serves as the armrests, is manufactured by splitting a single thick frame in half and installing it at both ends. This means that the balance of the frame supporting the seat at both ends will not be lost over time. It is a chair with a timeless, organic and complete design. Source: https://flymee.jp/
