When Junzo Sakakura, a representative architect of 20th century Japanese architecture, designed the residence of the Kabuki actor Koshiro Matsumoto VIII, this chair was designed by Daisaku Cho, a member of the Junzo Sakakura Architectural Institute. The chair fulfilled his request for a chair that would blend in with the lifestyle of a Japanese-style room and allow him to relax comfortably. The design seems to embody Japanese modernism that blends into lifestyles, regardless of whether they are Japanese or Western. The impressive shape of the backrest was inspired by the cross-section of a persimmon when cut in two. As the name "low seat chair" suggests, the seat is made low at 29 cm, allowing you to sit cross-legged or with your legs stretched out. The back of the seat is slightly inclined, and the thick cushion supports your body, so you can sit without putting strain on your lower back. The legs are shaped like a sled to prevent damage to tatami mats and carpets. It looks great not only in Japanese-style rooms but also in rooms with flooring, and is used widely from homes to hotels.
