Butterfly Stool
This iconic stool was designed by Yanagi Sori, a designer who built the foundations of Japanese industrial design, and was released in 1956. After the war, Yanagi Sori witnessed the Eames molded plywood technology in America, and this beautiful stool was born from his imagination and Tendo Mokko's molded plywood technology. The simple structure of two identical pieces of molded plywood joined with brass fittings gives it the appearance of a butterfly flying, hence the name. As the two pieces of molded plywood support each other, it is sometimes chosen as a wedding gift. Although its form is unique, its soft curves that exude warmth are appealing, and it fits in with a variety of interior styles. It is a masterpiece of design history that is collected as a permanent part of museums around the world, such as the Louvre in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
