F061 Sideboard
This sideboard was created when Metrox asked Pierre Paulin to redesign a product that was released by Thonet, a French company famous for its bentwood furniture, in the 1950s. It is a very rare product that does not appear in books about Paulin's products. Mr. Polin himself does not remember it well, so the production period was short. The F031 desk, reproduced by Metrox in 2003, is a faithful reproduction of the original, but this sideboard was newly sketched based on the proposal from Metrox and Mr. Polin's intentions. Before it was commercialized, several prototypes with different designs were made, and finally it took its current form. The original sideboard was a combination of wood and plastic drawers, but in consideration of deterioration due to aging and maintenance issues, the reproduction version uses wooden drawers like the desk. Improvements have been made based on the original so that it can be used with a desk and as an AV board. All the original models have drawers, but the F061 sideboard, a reproduction, has three drawers and double doors. The inside of the door has a movable shelf that can be adjusted to your preferred height in five steps. Like the F031 desk, it has been redesigned with a simple form based on the straight lines of Paulan's early works. Although it has a simple style that pursues functionality, it is a sideboard that takes into consideration the housing conditions in Japan, with a compact depth of 51 cm, and the legs are made of simple yet strong steel. The back is also finished, so it can be coordinated with any place. The edges of the top plate are chamfered, and the design is detailed. All three drawers are the same size so that they can be used differently, and have a front panel to increase strength. The steel handles are easy to grip and open and close. Inside the drawer is a brass sign plate, a proof of Pierre Paulan's approval. It goes well with the F031 desk, which is the same height, and we recommend using them side by side.
