For over 20 years, the Vitra Design Museum has been creating miniatures of historic furniture designs from its collection. From Art Nouveau to Bauhaus designs, and from postmodernism to contemporary works, the lineup covers the history of furniture. The Miniature Collection, which reduces the original works to 1/6 size, faithfully reproduces every detail, including structure, materials, and color. With a high level of detail, including reproduction of parts such as screws, natural wood grain, and handcrafted craftsmanship, the miniature collection is used not only as a collector's item, but also as an important reference for universities, design schools, and architects. The Zigzag Chair, along with the Red and Blue Chair, is one of Gerrit Rietveld's best-known furniture designs. The Zigzag Chair is made of four planks, but it is based on the ancient theme of a chair made from a single piece of wood. It was only four years later that Rietveld succeeded in creating a cantilever chair made from a single piece of plywood, which perfectly integrates form, function, and structure.
