For over 20 years, the Vitra Design Museum has been producing miniatures of historic furniture designs from its collection. From Art Nouveau to Bauhaus designs, and from postmodernism to contemporary works, the lineup covers the history of furniture. The "Miniature Collection", which reduces the original works to 1/6 size, faithfully reproduces every detail, including structure, materials, and color. With a high level of detail, including duplication of parts such as screws, natural wood grain, and handcrafted craftsmanship, the miniature collection is used not only as a collector's item, but also as an important resource for universities, design schools, and architects. In 1940, Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen developed a chair with a three-dimensional seat made of plywood for a competition hosted by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. However, the technical difficulties prevented mass production, and for the next few years Charles and Ray Eames focused on developing new molding techniques. The molded plywood chairs DCW and LCW were born from this long experimentation. In 1945, he again tried a chair made of moulded plywood, but the results were not satisfactory. So he decided to make the seat and back separate, connected by a frame. Rubber discs were placed between the frame and the seat or back to cushion the impact. The frames were made of wood or metal, and were available in two different heights: dining and lounge. Source: https://flymee.jp/
