ARM CHAIR 41 Paimio white lacquer
The 41 Armchair Paimio has revolutionized the history of furniture design. The seat, fixed to a cantilevered frame, appears to float in mid-air, supporting the sitter with astonishing resilience. Because wood changes over time and develops its own unique characteristics, the frame, which also serves as the arms, has been constructed from a single, thick frame, split in half and attached to both ends since the 41 Armchair's inception. This ensures that the balance of the frame supporting the seat remains intact over time. Designed in 1932 for the Paimio tuberculosis sanatorium in Finland, the 41 Armchair Paimio remains one of Alvar Aalto's masterpieces. [Designed 1931-1932] *Please note that due to environmental conservation measures, knots and imperfections may be present.
