In 1946, interior designer Ilmari Tapiovaara and his wife Annnikki were tasked with designing the Domus Academica, a student dormitory in Helsinki. Inheriting the modernist idea of bringing excellent design to the lives of everyone, Ilmari Tapiovaara designed the Domus Lounge Chair along with the Domus Chair as a series of furniture that can be mass-produced, has convenient functionality for student dormitories, and brings comfort to the person sitting in it.
