The Nest Cork Paper Basket was created for an exhibition on Shaker design. The theme of the exhibition was "housework" and its associations. The design is an adaptation of the classic Shaker bucket or basket, which can be used as a magazine rack or to hold slippers and other household items. It has a collapsed appearance to allow it to be packed flat for shipping, but the top and bottom are splined to give it a rounded shape for shape control. From the side, it has a softer, more textile-like appearance. The double layer of hand-sewn cork fabric and steam-bent wooden handles highlight the overall quality and rich detail of the piece.
