Doo-Wop Pendant Light, Dark Gray
This pendant was designed in 1952 in collaboration with Louis Poulsen and the Danish Naval Facilities Office. It consists of two components: an outer main shade and an inner cone, which spread light both vertically and horizontally. The outer shade is available in both painted and unpainted metal polished versions, but the inside of both shades is painted white to softly reflect light. Light emitted from the inner cone's opening is reflected by the inner surface of the main shade, which then illuminates the cone itself. Direct light from the light source illuminates a bright, direct downward light. This pendant was first introduced in the 1950s in close collaboration between Louis Poulsen and the Danish Naval Facilities Office. Originally known as the "Navy Pendant," it was used for many years in various naval buildings, including dining halls and offices, and became widely used for its distinctive light and functionality. In 2012, it was reborn under the name "Doo Wop," with new colors and brass versions, and in 2017, new metal versions in copper and stainless steel were introduced. However, the manufacturing methods remain the same, and the shades are still hand-formed using die-casting techniques, with elaborately rolled edges. The brass version in particular presents a high challenge even for skilled craftsmen, as the hard material is bent and polished to a high shine. Source: https://www.sempre.jp/
