Designed by Wilhelm Lauritzen in 1944, the VLA61 Monarch Chair was originally produced in just 10 pieces. This collector's item, which was once considered out of reach at auctions around the world, has now been reissued by Carl Hansen & Son, with a clearer approach to materials and a more contemporary look. Named after the Monarch butterfly, it pays homage to Wilhelm Lauritzen, who had a lifelong interest in butterflies and devoted himself to their research. With its loose upholstery, curved arms, and organic deerdrop-shaped bar curves, the VLA61 Monarch Chair is light and rich in artistic expression. Details such as the brass legs and hand-polished joints are characteristic of Lauritzen's consistent design. The material is FSC& certified oak and mahogany, and the upholstery is available in fabric or leather.
