Matthias Hahn's Capas collection focuses on layers of color, tone, and shadow, starting from his concept that shadows are not black or gray, but full of color and geometry. His goal was to create simple, light rugs with a casual feel, yet complex in their use of color and the creation of depth. To achieve this, Nanimarquina and Hahn diligently studied new kilim weaving techniques for distributing color. After several months, they developed a new type of loose kilim construction that allowed the warp and weft colors to blend. Typically, the warp threads are invisible in kilims. By loosening the fibers and using thicker warp threads, new colors and textures become visible, creating deeper, more intensified tones. The unique texture creates a shading effect and depth without weighing down the rugs. Like layers of air in the atmosphere that reflect light and cast shadows. Color is a central element of the Capas collection.
