Floor lamp 14A
This floor lamp, model 14A, is part of sculptor Isamu Noguchi's "AKARI" series of light sculptures. Its design is based on the traditional Gifu lantern, one of Isamu Noguchi's earliest models in the AKARI series. At the time of its release, plain lanterns were strongly associated with funerals and were not favored for interior decor. However, the simple yet contemporary white lanterns have since become highly sought after in Western countries. Featuring bent wood components on both the top and bottom, its modern style elevates any Japanese or Western-style room. The light filtering through the washi paper creates a soft, well-dispersed glow. Sculptor Isamu Noguchi first encountered lanterns in 1951 and began creating AKARI. These lanterns, created with a commitment to Japanese aesthetics, are also known as "light sculptures" and have become timeless designs beloved around the world. Even today, each lantern is handcrafted by artisans at Ozeki, a long-established lantern manufacturer in Gifu, using the original molds. AKARI is also part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Its name "Akari" (light) comes from the Chinese characters for "sun" and "moon," which mean "let the light of the sun or moon into your room." Source: https://www.truss.jp/
