IGUSA RUG NAVY Navy Igusa Rug
It's cool and refreshing, and feels good whether you sit or lie down on it. This is the "IGUSA RUG" made by taking advantage of the goodness of "tatami". The "IGUSA RUG" is made in pursuit of a design that can be matched with sofas and beds, as is typical of BasShu. The material is 100% rush grass from Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and the weaving is done by Ikegami Hikotaro Shoten, a long-established store in Chikugo that has been involved in making tatami mats since 1886. The craftsmen keep an eye on the rug at all times and operate the machine slowly so as not to put extra strain on the rush grass, so only 5 to 6 pieces can be produced per day. However, it is this effort and skill that gives IGUSA RUG its quality and presence. The patterns of IGUSA RUG are inspired by old Native American textiles. And by incorporating the natural color of the "rush grass" that is not dyed into each pattern, we have created a new yet nostalgic cool atmosphere. Also, unlike other rush mats known as "goza," IGUSA RUG has a slightly thicker urethane foam lining to enhance cushioning. This slight difference in thickness creates comfort when laid on a wooden floor. When storing, it can be folded in half at the center joint, making it compact for storage.
