Iso-Lounge Lounge Chair Oak
This cantilever lounge chair, designed by Jasper Morrison, explores the possibilities of molded plywood and was released in 2021. Its slim and sophisticated silhouette was born from the collaboration with the Isokon team, who investigated the lamination direction and thickness of the veneer layers to maximize the material's properties. It is an innovative product that combines unparalleled strength, comfort, and design, with plywood technology condensed into a seemingly simple form. By adding a third angle to each layer of plywood, which is laminated so that the wood grains are orthogonal, the distinctive plywood lines that appear on the end grain are made less noticeable, achieving both strength and stability. The delicately curved backrest uses advanced technology to gradually thin the laminated surface by shaving off parts of it. By suppressing rigidity and utilizing the flexibility of the wood, a springy and comfortable seating experience was created.
