Asymmetrical scissors originated in Egypt approximately 3,000 years ago and were already widespread in Europe in a shape similar to ours by Roman times. The office scissors we see today typically have symmetrical handles, a design that was developed for ease of use and efficient production. Originally, Western "scissors" were designed with ease of grip and sharpness in mind, with asymmetrical handles and blades, each with a functional design. Faithful to this history, we thoroughly pursued ease of grip and ease of use for detailed work, ultimately resulting in the asymmetrical design of THE SCISSORS. Forged using the same forging process as Japanese swords, the metal is hammered to enhance precision and sharpness. The blade gradually tapers toward the tip, known as the "kensaki," ensuring sharpness at the tip, the most difficult part of the scissors to cut. Both techniques are no longer found in modern scissors, which are made from processed stainless steel sheets. Exceptional Sharpness and Comfort While typical scissors have a blade angle of around 55 degrees, THE SCISSORS' blades are at a 45-degree angle. Each pair is hand-tested before shipping to ensure they can cut through gauze, a material known for its difficulty. Measuring 176mm in length, these scissors offer the most balanced overall volume, including handle size, blade length, and handle weight balance. Manufactured by PLUS Corporation, the leading manufacturer of office scissors, these scissors combine PLUS's innovative "Bernoulli curve blade" technology, which allows for consistent cutting force from the base to the tip, with traditional scissors-making techniques passed down through the ages. Perfect as a Gift: While blades are often considered unlucky gifts, they are actually said to "cut away misfortune and bring about good fortune." The Imperial family customarily gifts swords on auspicious occasions, and overseas, they are considered auspicious and sacred, often used at festivals and ceremonies, said to "cut away evil." This historic design is embodied in the design, presented in a paulownia wood box. Source: https://www.truss.jp/
