This work uses the technique of the traditional Japanese craft "Magewappa". "Magewappa" is a craft that makes rice containers and tea caddies by bending a single sheet of Akita cedar in hot water. By using unpainted Akita cedar, a unique texture and fragrance is created, stimulating the senses of sight and smell. Not only the design, but all the processes from bending, pasting, and assembly are created by the artist, Mr. Tani himself. "Most of the interior design in Japan is imported, and nowadays Japanese traditional crafts are on the decline. People overseas buy these traditional Japanese crafts and re-import them to Japan in a new form. I wondered why people living in Japan do not notice the "good things of Japan" that are close to them, and I wanted more people to know about Japanese traditional crafts through my work. In fact, I went to Akita to train in traditional crafts and came into contact with the tradition of "Magewappa". Until now, interior design was only visual information, but I have realized an interior that can be felt by two of the five human senses, olfactory information, through the material used in "Magewappa" and the scent of Akita cedar.
