Suruga Bamboo Sensuji Work, a traditional craft handed down in Shizuoka Prefecture, is a method of weaving various patterns into insect cages and lanterns made entirely from bamboo. Thin, rounded bamboo strips are flexibly bent and then inserted into bamboo rings to create the shape. Approximately 600 bamboo strips are used. This process requires incredible intricacy and a great deal of effort, but it is thanks to the craftsmanship that has been handed down for many years that it has been possible to realize this perfectly.
