WAPPA SHADE Shuriken-floor
This work uses the technique of the traditional Japanese craft "Magewappa". "Magewappa" is a craft that makes rice containers and tea caddies by bending a single sheet of Akita cedar in hot water. By using unpainted Akita cedar, a unique texture and fragrance is created, stimulating the senses of sight and smell. Not only the design, but all the processes from bending, pasting, and assembly are created by the artist Tani himself. The floor light with a silver stand is easy to incorporate into modern spaces, and you can use traditional crafts as familiar interiors in your everyday space. " Most of the interiors in Japan are imported, and Japanese traditional crafts are now on the decline. People overseas buy these traditional Japanese crafts and re-import them to Japan in a new form. I thought about why people living in Japan don't notice the "good things from Japan" that are close to them, and I wanted more people to know about Japanese traditional crafts through my work. In fact, I went to Akita to train in traditional crafts and came into contact with the tradition of "Magewappa". Until now, interior design has only been visual, but with the scent of Akita cedar, a material used in "Magewappa," we have created an interior design that stimulates two of the five human senses, olfactory information."
