Samuel Wilkinson was thinking about how to use the reflection and refraction of light in his designs, and came up with the idea of creating beautiful quilt-like shadows by covering the light source with glass engraved in a certain pattern. This became the inspiration for the Blown series. Each glass shade is fixed into a mold by hand by a craftsman and carefully shaped by blowing air into it.
