This is the Model S.16 industrial chair, featuring the so-called "compass legs" that are representative of Dutch mid-century design. The Model S16 industrial chair was produced in the late 1950s and early 1960s, combining affordability with practicality and durability to withstand heavy use in public facilities such as schools, offices, hospitals, and dining halls. Its share has since expanded to many facilities across Japan, making it one of the company's signature products. Although production was once discontinued, the S16, which has a global following as a vintage piece, resumed production in 2014. Its simple, industrial appearance and wide color palette, inspired by the industrial designs of Jean Prouve, Wim Rietveld, and Friso Kramer, transcend time and space, making it suitable for a variety of spaces, from residential to commercial. The "Compass Chair," considered a representative example of Dutch mid-century design, features compelling design elements. Featuring distinctive inverted V-shaped legs, commonly known as "compass legs," the chair was produced by multiple manufacturers throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Galfanitas also produced it, but unlike other Compass chairs, it was primarily used in public facilities, schools, and government agencies, rather than in private homes. Special Material: PAG Wood. The plywood used for the seat and backrest is a special composite material called "PAG wood," developed by the German company PAGHOLZ. PAG wood is a reinforced material made by compressing beech plywood and a special resin, offering impact resistance, durability, and water resistance. The seat features subtle textures to prevent slippage, a testament to the meticulous attention to detail that went into the S.16. Wide Variety of Colors: The S.16 is available in six colors. The wood and steel components are all available in different colors, making it ideal for coordinating with dining tables and other items. All colors are subdued and feature a sophisticated color scheme, making it easy to coordinate with any combination. Source: https://www.truss.jp/
